The Turkey e-Visa is an official entry authorization that eligible nationals can obtain electronically to travel to Türkiye for tourism or business. It is an electronic alternative to a traditional consular visa.
How does the Turkey e-Visa work?
Applications use information such as the traveller’s nationality, passport type, personal details and travel dates. If eligibility requirements are met through the official Türkiye e-Visa system (evisa.gov.tr) and the required steps are completed through the authorised process, the e-Visa is issued electronically. An e-Visa completed in the official system may be downloaded and sent to the applicant’s email address.
At the border, officers may verify e-Visa data electronically. Travellers are advised to keep a digital copy on a phone or tablet, or a printed copy, in case of technical issues.
Who can obtain a Turkey e-Visa?
Not every nationality can use the e-Visa system. Eligibility depends on nationality, travel document type and sometimes additional conditions. For example, nationals of India, Pakistan, Egypt, the Philippines, South Africa, Vietnam and some other countries may use the e-Visa system if they meet the relevant requirements.
Some nationals may travel to Türkiye visa-free and may not need an e-Visa.
Permitted travel purposes
The Turkey e-Visa is generally intended for tourism and short-term business or trade travel.
It cannot be used to work, study or reside long term. For those purposes, the appropriate visa must be applied for through Turkish embassies or consulates.
Passport validity
As a general rule, foreign nationals entering Türkiye should hold a passport or travel document valid for at least 60 days beyond the permitted stay indicated on their visa or e-Visa. Additional nationality-specific rules may apply.
Validity period is not the same as permitted stay
An e-Visa may be valid for use within a certain date range without allowing the holder to remain in Türkiye for the entire period. Visa validity and duration of stay are different concepts. Exact limits depend on nationality and the conditions of the e-Visa issued.
Information must be entered correctly
Once an e-Visa is issued, the details on it generally cannot be changed. If passport number, name, date of birth or other data do not match the travel document, the e-Visa may be invalid and a new application may be required.
Holding an e-Visa does not guarantee entry to Türkiye. The final decision rests with Turkish border authorities.
